I have good and bad habits that have been with me my entire life, things that I picked up as a child that are not very good for me, like cracking my knuckles, a passed one smoking, or staying in a negative environment to long, left profound impact on my present experiences, like it’s super annoying to my wife when I crack my knuckles, she thinks I do it to purposely to annoy her, but it has become an involuntary habit that I do without thought, the same when I smoked, no thought occurred I’d just light one up or I lived in a community that was not beneficial to myself nor my family because it was the normal thing I did for many years.

On good habits side I received equally great results, like my love for reading since childhood, or my commitment to a task, project or conviction. My work ethic learned from my early childhood environment, or my risk taking mindset that has been with me since I decide not to return to what was a good paying job when I was in my late teens and later in life retiring from a full time respectful skilled position to go back into the small business world.

Habits shape your life far more than you probably realize. Habits are very strong. In fact, our brains cling to them at the exclusion of all else – including common sense. Not only are habits important, they grow stronger and stronger over time and become more and more automatic. Since habits become you, the habits that you choose to follow set the tone for your entire life. The automation of your actions free up energy that can be used focus to other tasks . They also save us a lot of effort because we don’t have to relearn everything we do. So make sure you have the right ones!  This can work to your advantage! But if a bad habit is created you need to change it.

The ending of bad habits have allow me to replace them with good ones like removing a cost of $1K to $1.8K from my budget each year, improving my health exponentially, ending the very negative smell in my clothing and endangering health of my family. We move to a better community where what was always normal for us but abnormal in the community will lived in for so many years is now normal, living in a community of working professionals and independent business owners was where I should have implanted my family when I was in my early twenties.

The outcomes of good habits like a love for reading made it easy to attend college and finish later in life. This reading habit is so instrumental in my work today that I don’t know why I hadn’t embraced it greater when I was younger. This habit of staying in the small business world was truly a blessing from the many things I been able to do, the continuing change and growth in new business relationships, and the evolving of my business practice all a result of habits showing up.

The Golden Rule to produce the right changes:

1: Use the same cue

3: Provide the same reward.
